Following an action-packed final table, Englishman Jamie O’Connor has come out on top in leg 11 of this year’s GUKPT. The victory earned O’Connor a £45,760 payday after he defeated a 155-strong field at the Grosvenor G Casino Luton, which included some of the games top players such as Dave Ulliot, our very own Roberto Romanello and Julian Thew. The win will go a very long way to making amends for his frustrating finish at last years GUKPT Blackpool, when he bubbled the final table.
Heading into the final table, O’Connor had the second largest chopstick but was someway short of the leader Dean Swift, who held a commanding lead. But it didn’t take long for players to tumble and after high stakes pro Luke ‘Full Flush’ Schwartz hit the felt in fourth place, all that stood between O’Connor and his maiden GUKPT title were Dean Swift and Tim Blake. By this stage O’Connor was the overwhelming chip leader and after he eliminated Blake shortly after, it was down to two and O’Connor held a commanding 7 to 1 lead over Swift.
With his back against the wall Swift made a move as soon as he was dealt any sort of hand, but unfortunately for him his 4d-3d ran into O’Connor’s Ad-Ts. The cards on the board helped neither player and O’Connor’s ace-high was enough to win the tournament. The win came just weeks after O’Connor claimed his biggest ever online victory for just over $20,000, making October a month he is unlikely to forget for a very long time.
Here is how the final table finished up:
1. Jamie O´Connor – £45,760
