Brit becomes third triple crown winner
Rochdale’s Jake Cody moved into the record books this weekend, as the 22-year-old won his first WSOP bracelet and became only the third player to win all three poker ‘majors’.
In just 18 months, Cody has binked an EPT title in Deauville, a WPT title in London and now a WSOP bracelet in the hotly contested $25k Heads-Up Championship at this year’s World Series.
On Friday we brought you news of Cody’s semi-final with Gus ‘The Great Dane’ Hansen, and experts were predicting a tightly fought match. Well, the experts were wrong. Cody breezed past Hansen before annihilating former WPT winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko in the final for a cool $851,192.
The final table will live long in the memory of those who were lucky enough to be in the Amazon Room, as hundreds of Brits cheered Cody on in what was his first ever WSOP event.
Cody now joins Gavin Griffin and fellow Brit Roland de Wolfe in the Triple Crown winner’s circle, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves Vegas with more than one bracelet shaped tan line this year.
