22-year-old poker phenom bags event two
Jake Cody is already an EPT and WPT champion, despite only being part of the live scene for a few years and now he’s a proud owner of a SCOOP title, too.
Winning the second event of this year’s PokerStars spring series, Cody outlasted a field of 621 players in the $2,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em event, earning himself a $234,738 payday for his efforts.
But while Cody got the plaudits, PokerStars pro, Viktor ‘Isildur’ Blom, taking part in his first SCOOP series, was second in chips with 111 players. BUt the Swede was eliminated in one fatal blow after playing a huge pot for all of his stack with a Brazilian Pro called Caio “caio_pimenta” Pimenta.
After 3-betting 34s out-of-position preflop, Bloms substantial bets on the flop and turn were called. After his flush-draw missed on the river he shoved his remaining 137k into the 60k pot with nothing but bottom pair on a 6-5-Q-4-A board only to get called and busted by Pimenta who had 3-5 for second bottom pair.
When the play finally made it to heads-up, Cody, who goes by the name ‘Y0UR F4CE’, had a narrow lead over his opponent, Schappuscha. The two fought it out for an hour and a half with both players carving out big leads at various points of the battle.
Eventually, with both stacks at close to 100BBs deep, the two got it all-in preflop with Cody holding 8-8 and Schappuscha A-Q, meaning that the title would come down to a flip. An eight on the turn gave Cody trips and the best hand and a blank river gave the Rochdale man the win and his first ever SCOOP event.
Here’s how the final table finished:
