Online star wins two events in two days
The 2012 PokerStars Spring Championships of Online Poker (SCOOP) has barely started but already there’s a pattern emerging: no matter how hard you try and win one, Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom will beat you. The Skandi degen won two events in two days this week, banking over $400,000 and adding to his reputation as the game’s most feared online grinder.
Blom’s heater began with victory in Monday’s SCOOP Event 2-M: $215 NLHE, a two-day event featuring over 8,000 entrants battling for a $1.6 million prizepool. After cruising into the final table with the chip lead, Blom made short work of the remaining ‘donks’ for a cool $247,200 and his first major online poker tournament victory.
Not content with that, Isildur1 did the unthinkable a day later, final tabling another two-day tourney – the $530 plus rebuys NL Hold’em 6-max – where he turned the chip lead into another $160K.
Blom, best known for his six-figure swings on the cash game tables, has turned his attentions to tournaments in 2012. And after success at the PCA High Roller in January, is proving that his talents aren’t just limited to the nosebleed tables.
Unsurprisingly, Blom currently tops the SCOOP overall leaderboard, and even with another 30 or so events to go, we doubt anyone will catch him. Or that they should even bother.
But Blom’s not the only big name doing well in the series so far. Fellow Team PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu followed up his runner-up finish at the EPT Grand Final High Roller with another second place in the Event 6-High, $1,050 Five-Card Draw for $15,330.
Meanwhile rising British star Sam ‘SamSquid’ Grafton narrowly missed out on victory in the Event 2-High, $2,100 NLHE, banking $193,218 for his second place finish on a final table that also included EPT Vilamoura winner Toby ‘810ofclubs’ Lewis.
If you fancy playing in this year’s SCOOP, head to PokerStars.com for the full schedule and details on qualifying for free. Maybe stick to the low buy-in events, though. Blom’s not likely to bother with those. Good luck!
