Wu-Tang rapper Ghostface Killah launches internet poker room and live team to take on the pros

If poker culture at the very top end of the game is about high-rolling, massive hotel suites, private jets, conspicuous consumption and the finer things in life, then it follows that Hip Hop was bound to get involved at some stage.

It’s well known that Hip Hop stars and industry faces are in to poker, with personalities such as Jay Z, Busta Rhymes and others frequently spotted on the strip in Vegas, playing in high profile charity type events.

However, not until now has a Hip Hop star got heavily involved in the business and promotion of the game.

Ghostface Killah, member of the legendary Hip Hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has opened an internet poker site and established a live poker team who will take on the poker establishment in existing tournaments.

Ghostface Killah Poker (www.gfkpoker.com) is up and running and allows players to sign up and play: ‘Where Hip Hop meets Hold’em’, on the microgaming network.

They also have a $1,000 Freeroll ready to go for 25 February, with an additional $100 bounty for knocking Ghostface out of the tourney.

Gambling is part of Hip Hop culture and right now poker is the game of choice for playas everywhere.

Ghostface and his crew formed the GFK poker team last year and have been playing the circuit ever since, and Ghost’s critically acclaimed 2006 album, More Fish, dropped the track Pokerface which has become a poker room anthem.

Joining Ghostface on the team roster are MC Shawn Wiggs, Manager and Executive Producer Caruso and DJ Angie Martinez.

All four players know exactly what they are doing at the poker table and Wiggs tasted success recently taking down the FunkMaster Flex celebrity Poker Tournament, hosted by Diddy at the Taj in Atlantic City.

Shawn Simons of gfkpoker commented: “Since poker is becoming more popular in the Hip Hop community Ghostface has taken the first step to embrace poker. We plan on taking poker serious and playing with the pros in tournaments, mixing the 2 cultures together.”
