The Bear inducted alongside Linda Johnson
Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Greenstein has become the latest player to join Poker’s prestigious Hall of Fame, as a 35-person pannel of existing members voted for The Bear and Linda Johnson to become the 41st and 42nd inductees this week.
Greenstein, known affectionately as the Robin Hood of Poker, has been at the game’s forefront for decades, banking more than $7.5m in live tournament earnings, not to mention the millions he’s raised for major charities.
The accomplished author and father-of-four can still be found in the biggest cash games going, and it’s no surprise to see Greenstein take his place amongst the Phil Hellmuths Doyle Brunsons of the game.
Less, though, is know of his fellow inductee Linda Johnson, only the second woman to be inducted alongside Barbara Enright. Johnson, nicknamed ‘The First Lady of Poker’, enjoyed fame in the mid nineties when she claimed her first and only WSOP bracelet in the 1997 $1,500 Seven-Card Razz event.
Since then, Johnson has played a pivotal role in the development of the World Poker Industry Conference, the World Poker Players Conference, and the Tournament Directors Association.
She now serves on the Board of Directors for the Poker Players Alliance and the Ladies International Poker Series.
The pair beat a long and eccentric cast of characters for the 2011 honour, with Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, John Juanda, Marcel Luske, Jack McClelland, Tom McEvoy, Scotty Nguyen and Huck Seed falling at the final hurdle.
