Freeroll 10 report

Congratulations to 'scarface9' who won the tenth and final freeroll on 18 September

All good things draw to a close and so it was last night, when the sun set on the online section of the tenuously Wild West themed Betfair Grand Prix II.

Final points were up for grabs in the tenth and final freeroll for qualification to the Live Final, and a chance of playing the Betfair Asian Poker Tour in Singapore in November.

As usual it was tough going for the PokerPlayer Posse with the bounties available offering many players the best chance of making the Live Final. Five of the seven gauchos rode into town to face a field of 441 trigger happy gunslingers.

‘Dicey’ was first to go in 311st, after a ‘6-5 suited pick-off-the-limpers all-in shunt’ which was called by Grand Prix veteran ‘ed burger’ with Q-2. Perhaps not the best decision ‘Dicey’ has ever made, but having checked it on the Odds Calculator this morning, he maintains it was a 50-50 shot.

Not long after ‘HillyFish’ found himself shortstacked, on the button, and went for a textbook all-in with A-6. ‘sad dad’ showed A-J suited, flopped a Jack and it was all over in 285th.

Next up was ‘K_Unknown’ gunned down in 254th with no complaints after his pocket nines were crushed by ‘pdnb1965’s’ pocket rockets. He had earlier thought he was going to win when he came back from 135 chips to 1,650 in two hands, but it wasn’t to be.

Then is was the turn of ‘Shafty78’, who’s had some good finishes in this Grand Prix, in 203rd. His big slick was ambushed by ‘vansmith’s’ A-10 when his solitary spade made a flush on the river after our man had hit trip Kings. Ouch.

So it was down to ‘darklord5’ to fight on. Surrounded by bounty hunters he managed to stay stay alive, and a ridiculously bad run of cards actually helped him to set up a tight image and get some respect.

The first decent hand, Q-Q arrived about an 45 mins in, but it was impossible to find action and that hand won as massive 100 chips. He made it to the first break having played about 5 hands, but the first double up wasn’t too far away when J-Q suited against A-10 paired.

From there bets and raises were respected and ‘darklord5’ slowly climbed up to an average stack of around 4,500. Slowly gaining control of the table, he was then moved to a much looser table, with much bigger stacks. With the antes hitting hard it was difficult to find the previous momentum, and so it was time to push with J-10d against ‘De Wolf’s’ 8-8 and the snowmen refused to melt. Off into the sunset in 100th place.

There were some familiar names on the final table, and all will be hoping that last night’s efforrts were enough to carry them through to the glitzy Live Final next month. Congratulations to ‘scarface9’, who won the Freeroll and gains automatic qualification at the death to the Live Final. Nice one.

The Live Final will now see the 10 Freeroll winners, plus the top 33 players on the leaderboard, and of course the magificent seven of the PokerPlayer Posse do battle next month.
