Erik Seidel wins WPT High Roller

Hall of Famer claims fourth title of 2011

Before you say anything, no you haven’t read this story before and yes Erik Seidel has won another high roller event. The all-time money winner now has a staggering four titles and $5,590,166 in tournament winnings in this year alone, and we’ve not even got our pasty legs out for summer yet!

The $100,000 WPT Championship High Roller, the biggest buy-in event in WPT history, attracted 29 of the game’s biggest and most in form pros. Alongside Seidel, Daniel Negreanu and Eric Lindgren, the UK’s Sam Trickett, who also has more than $4.5m in winnings this year, made the journey to Las Vegas’ Bellagio for their shot at the $1,092,780 first prize.

But it was Seidel who eventually came out on top, seeing off Lindgren heads-up after Negreanu had busted in third. Going into heads-up with almost a 2-1 chip lead, Seidel doubled Lindgren up early on, but 326 hands into the final table, the Hall of Famer ended it.

With blinds 50k/100k with a 10k ante, Seidel limped from the button with Ah-5h and hit top pair on a scary Ac-4c-2c board. Lindgren check-raised all-in for his last million with Jc-3h, but couldn’t catch up – a 9d and 2s missing his straight and flush draws.

Seidel is now odds on favourite to grab a bracelet at this year’s World Series, and after arguably the best year ever seen in tournament poker, are you going to argue with the bookies?

WPT Championship High Roller payouts were as follows

1 Erik Seidel $1,092,780
2 Erick Lindgren $700,500
3 Daniel Negreanu $448,320
4 Vivek Rajkumar $336,240
5 Justin Bonomo $224,160
