EPT London News

PokerStars announce EPT London details including one shock announcement

Details have just been released for the hotly anticipated PokerStars.com European Poker Tour London and there was a bit of surprise news for this year’s festival. For the first time in its six year history the event won’t be held at the famous Grosvenor Victoria casino on Edgware Road. Instead, the mammoth 16 event festival will take place at the nearby London Hilton Metropole Hotel.

This change has clearly been made to accommodate even more players after the 2008 main event drew a capacity 596 runners. It’s a bold move certainly on the part of the EPT and PokerStars but with the continuing growth of the EPT it seems one that will surely pay off come October. This year the new venue will accommodate more than 800 players, have an estimated overall prize pool of £4 million and players from across the UK and around the world are invited to compete for it on the felts of London.

The event will be the biggest PokerStars EPT Poker Festival to date with 16 separate events scheduled, including; the return of the popular three-day EPT London £20k High Roller, the first-ever £2k European 8-Game Championship, and numerous lower buy-in events, including a £500 8-Game event, a £1k Pot Limit Omaha High-Low event, a £1k No Limit 6-Max event and a £2k PLO event. The PokerStars.com London EPT £5k Main Event will once again cement London as the poker capital of Europe this autumn.

John Duthie, EPT Chief Executive said “The PokerStars.com EPT London Poker Festival will have a rich mix of games and buy-ins to cater to the most players possible in a compelling schedule – by poker players, for poker players. This continues on the fundamental programming shift made for last season’s EPT Grand Final where we tried to create the best opportunity for all our players, not just higher-rollers, to play a wide mix of poker games and formats at a variety of accessible buy-ins.”

There will be 28 cash tables running throughout the festival at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino and one table tournament and single table satellites running daily at the Hilton Metropole. For all PokerStars.com EPT London Poker Festival events, players can buy-in directly from the PokerStars client and also receive pay-outs into their PokerStars accounts. Online satellites for the PokerStars EPT London Poker Festival are running now on PokerStars, with buy-ins from as little as $2.22 or 111 FPPs. Players who qualify on PokerStars don’t just win their seat; they also win hotel accommodation (or cash equivalent) and spending money as part of their prize package.
