Ladies-only poker is in rude health at the moment with the news that Jackie Meecham of Leytonstone has won the second Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship. and prizes worth £32,000 this Bank Holiday weekend. Jackie, a Home Office Manager, already a UK Champion pool player (achieving a UK no.1 ranking) scoops prizes worth £32,000.
Her biggest win before the ELC was £700, which was won at her local card room Equal Chance. As part of her prize Jackie will now play in Poker Million VI for a chance to win a staggering $1,000,000. The seat for the tournament (one of seventy two) is worth £14,000.
Jackie qualified to play in the ELC tournament via a £1.50 online tournament at Ladbrokespoker.com, and went on to beat 47 other women from all over Europe including Liz Lieu and respected poker player Lucy Rokach.
The ELC tournament will be broadcast on Sky Sports 2 in July and August and viewsers will see Jackie blasting her competition into oblivion over 6 episodes. Jackie will return to defend her ELC title next year.
Jackie Meecham was understandly chuffed with her big win: "I watched poker on TV for a few months before I started to play and decided that this was a game that I could do well at. I packed my bags soon after and headed to Las Vegas for a holiday with the express intention of leaving knowing how to play poker well."
"I think I can safely say that has been achieved! I can’t wait to participate in the Poker Million VI, apart from the experience the amount of money to be won is astounding. If you get to the semi-final you are guaranteed at least £6,000 and to get into the semi finals means £10,000. It is an opportunity of a lifetime, that I am going to grasp with both hands." Jackie is going to buy a new car with her winnings.
Ladbrokespoker.com is celebrating its fifth birthday this month with a festival of poker and will run a number of tournaments with prizes including packages to play in the WSOP and Poker Million VI.
Samantha Alleyne PR Manager Ladbrokes commented: "This is truly a great event, it gives women a chance to experience a tournament where they are one of many, not a few, as is often the case in live poker. It’s a really friendly environment for players who usually only play online or have limited live experience. And yet the structure, format and prizes still attracts the crème de la creme of the poker circuit."
