Nottingham’s super card club Dusk Till Dawn opens its doors to a full house and a sold out 119 runner freeze out
Dusk Till Dawn opened its doors to the general public with real success on it’s opening night, hosting a £50+£50 Freeze Out.
The inaugural night was met with huge demand, proving that poker players from around the UK have been crying out for a dedicated cardroom.
Rob Yong, Managing Director of DTD, said: "I always knew Dusk Till Dawn would attract players but I still only expected a 100 runners max tonight however I think this shows just how much there has been a need for a club like this."
Players traveled from all over the country and a queue was trailing around the door shortly after the club opened at 6pm. By 7.30pm, the time of play, all 108 seats had been sold with 20 in reserve. An historic accomplishment as no poker club has ever met with such demand on its opening night. Alternate players were permitted to enter in the first two levels afterother players had been knocked out, meaning 119 people took part in total.
Those who didn’t make it into the tournament or were knocked out, took part in a variety of cash games and STTs attracting famous faces such as Tony ‘Tikay’ Kendall, Paul ‘actionjack’ Jackson, Maria ‘Chili’ Demetriou and Julian ‘Yo-Yo’ Thew, winner of the Baden EPT.
Julian, says: "I wanted to show support for the club especially as it’s right on my doorstep. The venue is fantastic and I’ll be playing here on a weekly basis, I’m particularly looking forward to learning the ropes as a cash player as I mostly enter tournaments."
Although there are always winners and losers in poker, the night was characterised by the good cheer of everyone attending. It would have been hard to find a guest who didn’t enjoy themselves immensely.
As usual the club stayed open from 6pm – 6am with the clatter of chips still clearly being heard in the cardroom the entire time. The main tournament itself ended shortly after 4am with the remaining four players making a deal to split the money.
