Read on for the most unlikely story of the poker year
Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, ambassador for DevilfishPoker.com, this weekend addresses the world famous Oxford Union where he will take a question and answer session from students on poker and his career.
Ulliott joins a preeminent group of speakers at the Union which includes some of the most important figures in modern political, economic, scientific, artistic, and sporting history.
Some of the notable figures who have addressed the union include Albert Einstein, Richard Nixon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Kermit the Frog, Yasser Arafat, Ian Paisley, John Hume, Diego Maradonna, Charlton Heston, Leonard Nimoy, Peter O’Toole, W.B. Yeats, Henry Kissinger, Ronald Reagan, and Robert Kennedy.
Devilfish said, “as a hard working graduate of the University of Life, it’s a real honour to be asked to speak at the Union where some of the great minds and talents of the last 200 years have gone before. Poker is a complex game that suits brilliant thinkers like me and while I don’t know most of the people who have spoken there over the years I’m a big fan of Kermit the Frog and to take to the same stage as him is humbling. After the debate I’m off to speak to the BBC World Service and I expect the United Nations will probably want me next week.”
Ulliott takes the question and answer session at 8.30pm this Saturday, May 16, ahead of the Oxford Cup three weeks later, on June 7. The Oxford Cup is now in its eighth year and coincides with the launch of the all-new UK Student Poker Federation. Tickets for the £20 rebuy main event also allow players free entry to the Devilfish debate and are available on a first come, first serve basis from the Oxford Union.
