Eames and Romanello go deep in €1k event
The Brits have been out in force in Cannes, but while Sam Trickett licks his wounds after finishing fourth in the €5k PLO event, John Eames and Roberto Romanello will also be thinking about what might have been.
The duo final tabled the stacked €1k NLHE event, finishing seventh and five respectively in a record-breaking 771-strong field. And while Eames, one the country’s most exciting prospects, will be disappointed not to claim his first bracelet, for Romanello defeat cost him a chance to join poker’s elite group of Tripple Crown winners.
With EPT and WPT wins already under his belt, Romanello needs a WSOP bracelet to join Gavin Griffin, ElkY and fellow Brits Jake Cody and Roland de Wolfe in the Triple Crown club. Yet despite defeat, 2011 has been a year to remember for everyone’s favourite Welshman.
He went into the final table third in chips, but much like Sam Trickett in the PLO event, a cold deck sealed his fate and he’ll be pinning his Triple Crown hopes on this weekend’s Main Event before the WSOPE shuts up shop for another year.
Here’s how the €1k WSOPE finished up:
1. Andrew Hinrichsen €148,030
2. Gianluca Speranza €91,262
3. Tarcisio Bruno €67,281
4. Bernard Guigon €50,146
5. Roberto Romanello €37,874
6. Eric Baudry €28,977
7. John Eames €22,449
8. Nabil Nadjai €17,608
