Online whizz pockets $213,877
Renowned CardRunners instructor and high-stakes pro Brian ‘Stinger885’ Hastings bolstered his meagre live tournaments earnings with victory at the WPT Regional Summer Splash in Florida this week.
Hastings saw off 391 players en route to the $213,877 first prize, the biggest in his live tournament career.
Victory in the $2,200 buy-in event takes Hastings’ earnings to $288,841, but despite his live success, the former Full Tilt pro is still determined to find a way to play online in the post-Black Friday world.
His Florida win is just a drop in the ocean when compared to the infamous $4.2 million winning session against Skandi degen Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom back in 2009, and like many of his high-stakes contemporaries, Hastings may be looking to relocate outside of the US very soon.
‘Now, the question I’m asking myself is what my next move is,’ Hastings said after his win. ‘Despite my newfound liking of live poker, I really don’t like Vegas and just can’t imagine spending any more time there than the WSOP and a few shorter trips during tourneys or whatnot.’
‘I think my earn potential is still highest online unless I can get into some really good and big live games regularly, and as that seems somewhat unlikely, I’m leaning toward a short-term move to Canada (at least until it gets too cold).’
The WPT Regional Summer Splash final table finished as follows:
1. Brian Hastings $213,877
2. Griffin Malatino $117,300
3. Michael Degilio $78,200
4. Darryl Fish $55,522
5. Jake Schwartz $41,446
6. Anthony Ruberto $32,844
7. Cong Pham $24,633
8. Martha Dajer-Rodriguez $18,377
9. Bryan Campanello $13,294
