Darren Woods becomes third Brit to bag a bracelet at the 2011 WSOP
Darren Woods has won Event 19 at the WSOP: the $2,500 Limit Hold’em/Six-handed event, picking up over $213k and setting the UK on course to a record bracelet haul.
Woods beat Kim Nguyen – only the third woman to make a final table so far in this year’s Series – taking just an hour and a half to grind her down to a short stack. In the final hand, odds dictated that Woods get his 4h-2h in against Nguyen’s Kc-2c and although the match looked to be prolonged following a flop of Kh-4d-6s, the Englishman spiked a deuce on the river to take the title.
Although this was Woods’ first major victory, the result was no fluke. In 2010, he cashed in three times $10k events, including the Limit Hold’em Championship.
