31-year-old female player scoops massive prize in Betfair Grand Prix freeroll
A chartered civil engineer from Birmingham has won the trip of a lifetime by knocking out the sheriff of the PokerPlayer posse ‘K_Unknown’, AKA magazine editor Dave Woods, in the fourth freeroll of the Betfair Grand Prix.
The prize was won with a $6,000 bounty on Woods’ head. The $6,000 equates to a trip for two to Las Vegas courtesy of those great people at Betfair.
This was no mean feat as ‘K_Unknown’ is the reigning Grand Prix champion, having won the live final last time out.
Anne Farmer, who plays as ’Drunklkme’ and celebrated her birthday the day after the win, is over the moon to have won such a big prize – on one hand of poker – and in a freeroll.
“It’s amazing!” she said: “I went into a complete daze afterwards and think I folded about 50 hands regardless of what I’d got! My husband started ringing everyone we knew to tell them.”
“I’ve done OK in a couple of freerolls before now, finishing third in the Pokerroom freeroll last month and fourth in a Grand Prix freeroll last year in which ‘K_Unknown’ reached the top three, so this feels like sweet revenge. But obviously I havent won anything as big as this.”
As for the hand that nailed the prize she can remember everything: “I spent ages trying to decide whether to call his small raise which was twice the BB, and I was in the small blind, with pocket 2’s.
“But with the prize on his head I had to call and hope for the third 2. I couldn’t believe it when it came on the flop. Then I just had to try and get him all-in which was probably made easier by the fact he had pocket A’s! Can’t believe I was so lucky.”
Not luck, shrewd play. Anne also has a message for her vanquished foe, ‘K_Unknown’: “Don’t slow play A’s! Only joking, I thought he was really unlucky with all of the rubbish people had been going all-in with against him all night he must have thought he had it won. I still can’t believe I won it with pocket 2s.”
Anne has visited the Vegas before but that was 1 year B.P. Before Poker.
“I didn’t play poker last time and am looking forward to playing it this time. My husband paid for me to go last year as my 30th Birthday present! We went with 10 of his family, The Vegas Posse, and had a fantastic time. I’ll never forget playing Craps with a bunch of Americans cheering me on because I was on such a lucky streak.”
Anne is not only a keen poker player, her other hobbies include running and scuba diving. Poker is definitely on the agenda for this Vegas trip, as well as something else a bit out of the ordinary.
We’ve heard of people playing golf in Vegas, and maybe taking a helicopter trip, but the Farmers are planning to dive the Dam.
“I’m also hoping we’ll get a chance to scuba dive at the Hoover Dam, as we didn’t get to last time.” Superb. Maybe our aquatic expert HillyFish should also get stuck into some of that while he’s out there..
