Bodog Poker pulls out of the American market after Black Friday
Bodog Poker has become the latest poker site to announce its
decision to pull out of the US after Black Friday. The brand, famous for sports
betting and casino applications as well as poker, released a statement saying
they planned to let their Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG) license expire at
the end of the year. This means that from 2012, the Bodog brand will no longer
operate in the US.
Post-Black
Friday, Bodog proudly advertised that they were one of the only sites still up
and running in the US, while the big three (PokerStars, Full Tilt, and UB
Poker) were lying bruised and broken pending FBI investigation.
But the decision to pull out was made after Bodog became the
first bookmaker to gain a remote and non-remote gaming license from the UK
Gambling Commission. In a statement released this week, Bodog said the
withdrawal from the US market was to ‘ensure the brand’s expansion is not affected by
negative perceptions’ in the UK and Asia.
Bodog has confirmed that the bankrolls of all clients on bodog.eu will remain safe. After December 31 2011 US players will not be able to access the bodog.eu site, but have the choice to move to an MMGG site.
The decision is yet another setback for the American poker community, with real money poker sites accessible to US player dropping like flies.
