Back-to-back WPT titles for Marvin Rettenmaier

German Pro Marvin Rettenmaier becomes first player to win back-to-back WPT titles.

PartyPoker’s Marvin Rettenmaier has become the first player ever to win back-to-back WPT titles after taking down this seasons opening event in Cyprus following up his victory in last seasons final event.

Outlasting a star-studded field of 329 players which included the likes of Dan Cates, Chris Moorman and the Mizrachi brothers, Rettenmaier scooped $287,784 in return for his $4,400 buy-in, plus a seat at the coveted 2013 WPT World Championship at the Bellagio worth $25,000.

Talking about his win Rettenmaier said “this is totally mad, now I am heading to Philadelphia to see if I can make it a triple, I have to keep going when things are going this well.”

Rettenmaier was in devastating form once he reached the final table. Unbelievably he eliminated every other player at the six-handed final table. When the play eventually reached heads-up Rettenmaier held more than 80 per cent of the chips in play, and needed only two hands to defeat Russian Tournament Director Artur Voskanyan

The next leg of the WPT is already underway in Philadelphia at the Parx Casino and boasts a buy-in of $3,500.

The tour returns to Europe for the WPT Grand Prix de Paris €7,500 Main Event at the prestigious Aviation Club de France from September 10 – 15.
