The Southern Hemisphere's richest poker event is underway and is attracting the big names
The Aussie Millions, staged at the world famous Crown Casino on the riverfront in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, is now firmly established as one of the major events on the global poker calendar.
Billed as the Southern Hemisphere’s richest poker event the 2007 incarnation features two weeks of high octane action, culminating in the A$10,000 main event.
Kiwi Lee Nelson won last year’s main event and there are plenty of big pros and eager locals in town hoping to take the big one down.
The main event begins on 14 January with the Final Table slated to begin on 19 January.
The Aussie Millions also coincides with international cricket and tennis in the city and the Crown Casino will be buzzing throughout.
The poker jamboree kicked off with a huge field of 516 players for Event 1 on Saturday 6 January. The $1,100 No Limit Holdem tournament was won by Gabriel Xiourouffa of Adelaide who took home first prize of $139,047.
Gabriel defeated Sydney pro player Zhi Hong Ma heads up to win the title.

Event 2 of the championship, the $1,100 Limit Holdem tournament, finished up early Monday morning when Nick Sutar defeated local veteran Billy ‘The Croc’ Argyros to win $54,718. The event attracted 171 runners and saw a handful of big name players produce some great final table action.
