Newly sponsored Finn beats amateur in heads-up promotion
Since Black Friday caught online poker with its pants down last April, poker sites haven’t exactly been rushing to sign pros to their roster. But this week, ex-Full Tilt star Patrik Antonius returned to the game with new site iGame and announced his return in typical winning fashion.
Antonius became the first former Team Full Tilt Poker pro to lend his name to a poker room after Black Friday when he signed for iGame last month, and, as part of his deal, the chiselled cash game legend squared off against one unlucky amateur in a heads-up match with up to €20,000 on the line.
On Tuesday, Rui Faria from Portugal stepped up to battle Antonius after qualifying via iGame, and if Faria could win two consecutive matches against the Finn, he’d pocket €20,000, a single victory was good for €5,000, and, even if he left empty handed, losing the first match would still come with a guaranteed €2,000 VIP Package.
Sadly for Faria, that €2,000 package was ready and waiting, and after Antonius showed up 30 minutes late for the challenge, poker’s coolest player needed just 81 hands to brush off the amateur.
With 50k starting stacks and the blinds at 800/1,600, Antonius limped the button with Ad-10d and Faria checked his option with Qs-5s. An all action 5d-3s-2d was good enough for all the money to pile in, and a 3d on the river handed Antonius the win.
After barely breaking a sweat, Antonius was rumoured to be heading back to the high-stakes games in Vienna. What a life…
The match was streamed live and online via iGame.com. Head over to the site for more reaction and the chance to watch further matches should they happen.
