Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari celebrates his 32nd birthday with a win in the Five Diamond Classic
Antonio Esfandiari overcame a star-studded final table to record the second WPT title of his career and claimed $870,124 at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic.
Going into the final table fifth out of six in chips, Esfandiari certainly had a mountain to climb especially considering the elite nature of the other pros including Andrew Robl, Vanessa Rousso and November Niner John Racener.
Three-handed, only Rousso, Robl and Esfandiari remained and it proved to be the start of a gruelling battle – four hours in all – from which only Robl and Esfandiari emerged. Robl held a slim lead over The Magician heads-up but that was soon overturned and the final hand came 58 hands in.
Robl shoved with Q-10 and Esfandiari called with K-J and despite a dramatic board of Ad-Kd-6d, the pair of Kings and another 6 of the turn was enough to see Robl off.
