WSOP bracelet winner Amir Vahedi has died at the age of 48 from apparent complications involving his diabetes
The poker world is mourning the loss of Amir Vahedi who died on January 8. The first thought was that his death was caused by his diabetic condition but the family are awaiting toxicology reports and a full autopsy.
Vahedi was known for his flamboyant, friendly nature on and off the table and he was also highly respected as a talented player who managed to win a WSOP bracelet in 2003. That same year he also made two other final tables including sixth place in the WSOP Main Event.
Many illustrious poker players expressed their condolences on Twitter and their own blogs.
‘We will miss Amir Vahedi. He was a great guy, willing to do anything that was asked of him….RIP,’ said Doyle Brunson.
‘Amir was a hard worker that did everything to support his family. My condolences to the Vahedi family. Must be tough,’ said Daniel Negreanu who himself lost his mother at the end of 2009.
Vahedi is survived by a son and two daughters.
