WSOP announces dates and details for all 62 of summer’s gold bracelet events
Promising to be even bigger and better than last year, with just over 100 days left until the action begins, the full schedule for the 44th World Series of Poker has been announced. With a total of 62 events planned, there will be something for absolutely everyone regardless of your favourite poker variant, your bankroll, your age or your sex.
Like previous year’s, the series will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas between May 29 and July 15. This year’s Main Event kicks-off on July 6 and will conclude on July 15, leaving the final nine to return on November 4.
As has become the annual custom, the low buy-in casino employees event will kick things off on May 29. Aside from that, other major highlights include ‘Event 6’, appropriately named the millionaire maker, which is a $1,500 single rebut event with a guaranteed $1 million first prize. There is the WSOP’s first-ever turbo event, a $1k buy-in tournament scheduled for June 19. Also, in a potentially controversial move the ladies event will cost only $1k for women to enter compared to $10k for men, hopefully pricing the men out of the event, which they are legally allowed to compete in.
For those people with deep pockets there are the $50k Poker Players’ Championship and the $25k six-handed no-limit hold ’em events. Unfortunately, the $1 million buy-in event which was won by Antonio Esfandiari last year has been axed. Replacing it is a super-high-roller $111,111 tournament which is scheduled for June 26, with $3,333.33 of each entrance donated to the ONE DROP charity. There will also be a $1,111 buy-in “Little One For One Drop” on July 3, with $111 of that going to same charity.
For those who can’t wait to start planning their summer of poker, pre-registration opens officially for all 62 events on March 4.
