Isildur1 stacks Negreanu

Swede takes Kid Poker for $150,000

When Daniel Negreanu stepped up to the Isildur1 SuperStar Showdown challenge last week, railbirds and journalists alike welcomed the prospect of an all-time great taking on the precocious young Swede. Unfortunately for Negreanu, all that awaited him was a high-stakes spanking.

Prior to their clash, Kid Poker had been sparring with some of the game’s best online players to sharpen his game. But with luck most definitely not on his side, the four-time WSOP bracelet winner lost $150,000 in just 1,439 hands.

The usual set up applied: 2,500 hands split across four tables of $50/$100 no-limit hold’em heads-up action, with both players stumping up $150,000 for the pleasure. And with an early finish, Negreanu now has the unfortunate honour of being the first challenger to bust short of the 2,500-hand mark.

But to say Negreanu ran cold would be an insult. He was positively card dead. River after river went in Blom’s favour and when all was said and done, and Blom raked in the Canadian’s final $10,000 after turning a Broadway straight, Negreanu hit Twitter like a man possessed.

‘That was pretty frustrating. Lost the match in 1439 hands. In 20k + pots he beat me 12-2 and I ran 44k under par in all in pots again.’

And he wasn’t finished there. Here’s what he had to say on his blog straight after.

The match was originally scheduled to take place over two consecutive weeks, and despite his hiding, Negreanu has promised to stump up another $150,000 this Sunday. Check back with PokerPlayer next week for all the action.
