Brits dominate 10th annual European Poker Awards
Jake Cody’s stellar form in 2010 was recognised this week, as the Rochdale pro was awarded the European Poker Awards Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year titles at the Queenie Club in Paris.
With an EPT title, WPT bracelet and over $1,700,000 in live tournament winnings, Cody was arguably the UK’s most successful player in 2010. And with an UKIPT High Roller title to his name already in 2011, no one will argue against the youngster fattening his pockets over the next 12 months.
But Cody wasn’t the only Brit recognised in Paris this week. Rising female star Liv Boeree was crowned Europe’s Leading Lady ahead of Annette Obrestad after her EPT San Remo win last April, while WSOPE Main Event champ and PokerFarm owner James Bord walked off with the Outstanding Tournament Performance award.
Elsewhere, Tony G beat PokerPlayer’s very own Jesse May to the Rob Gardner Memorial Award for Poker Personality of 2010, while Andreas ‘Skjervøy ‘ Torbergsen won the most stacked category of the night – the Internet Player of the Year – after banking almost $4,000,000 in 2010.
The EPA winners were as follows:
Lifetime achievement award: Nic Szermeta
Player of the Year: Jake Cody
Rob Gardner Memorial Award for Poker Personality of 2010: Tony G
Poker Staff Persona of the Year: Gerard Serra Retamero, TK Events
Europe’s Leading Lady: Liv Boeree
Outstanding Tournament Performance: James Bord
Internet Player of the Year: Andreas Torbergsen
