Blom extends SuperStar Showdown lead

Isildur1 defeats Katchalov for $111,000

Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom’s much hyped PokerStars SuperStar Showdown claimed another victim this week, as in form tournament star Eugene ‘MyRabbiFoo’ Katchalov became the third pro to fall at the Swede’s hands.

After losing his opening Showdown match-up against Isaac Haxton, the high-stakes prodigy has seen off three opponents in a row, with Katchalov becoming his latest conquest after poker loudmouth Tony G and 2010 high-stakes star Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates.

The 2,500 hand, four table, $50/$100 bout was Blom’s most lucrative to date, and after taking the PCA High Roller champ for $111,000, Isildur1 now has a combined $165,000 in profits over the series.

As ever, the rail was full of big name pros and spectators clamouring for a look at the high-stakes whizz kid, and Daniel Negreanu fuelled speculation that he could be next to challenge Blom heads-up. After commenting during Isildur1’s last match with Cates, Negureanu wrote this week:

KidPoker: So this Isildur1 kid might be pretty good afterall 🙂

With Blom’s next opponent announced in the coming weeks, few would be surprised to see Negreanu lacing up his gloves…
