Hall of Famer beats stacked field for AUD$2.5 million
The 2011 Aussie Millions came to life this week, as poker’s biggest names made their way Down Under hoping to snag a share of the ludicrous prizepools on offer.
But one event grabbed the attention more than most, the $250,000 Super High Roller Event, the biggest buy-in in poker history, and it was 2010 Hall of Famer Erik Seidel who got his hands on the AUD$2.5 million dollar prize.
Sediel had to overcome arguably the hardest field ever in tournament poker, with 20 of the game’s greatest players coughing up the $250,000 buy-in, including Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Annette Obrestad and rising internet pro Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates.
But Seidel’s main challenge came from Retford’s own Sam Trickett, the in form pro at this year’s Aussie Millions. Trickett destroyed the Super High Roller final table, single handily eliminating big name after big name until only Seidel stood in the way of the Brit’s second Aussie Millions title in seven days.
Seidel is on a heater of his own, and following final table finishes at the PCA High Roller event and this week’s $100 Challenge, the eight-time bracelet winner wrestled the chip lead from Trickett and eliminated the youngster 45 minutes into their heads-up brawl, taking his earnings for January alone to $3.46 million.
The final payouts were as follows:
Erik Seidel $2,500,000
Sam Trickett AUD$1,400,000
David Benyamine AUD$1,110,000
