Nosebleed round-up

PokerPlayer brings you all the news from this week’s high-stakes cash-games

In typical January style, the nosebleed tables have surrended to detox-mode. The excess seen at Christmas no longer dominates the tables, nor are players gorging on their usual monster pots. That being said there has still been action, albeit leaner, this past week, with the usual faces making some hero calls and six-figure swings.

Player of the week: Patrik Antonius

High-stakes idol Patrik Antonius got off to a rip-roaring start in 2011, banking $632k in a little over 1500 hands. The majority of his stack came from Kagome Kagome (formerly IHateJuice), including a big pot when Antonius slow played Kings on the flop to earn him a cushty $632k. The Finnish pro crushed Kagome Kagome and demonstrated once again why he is the seen as one of the online world’s leading cash game players.

But despite his lofty image, the Finn only banked $363k playing on line in 2010, failing to match the highs of 2009 – when he cashed a solid $8.9m and took down an antonishing $1.3m in one pot – but a six figure profit is still nothing to scoff at.

Kagome Kagome, too, hasn’t had the best of fortune recently, finishing $619k down last week and $457k in the red for 2010. The online misterio, rumoured to be a poker coach from Germany, was also forced to change his alias from IHateJuice recently, when Full Tilt received complaints that the name was anti-semetic.

Pot of the week

An online high-roller called BRAZZMONKEY barrelled into pole position this week as the top pot earner, taking down just under $100k with a Kh 8d hand against urubulll’s 7s 3h. The No Limit Hold’em pot was battled out PokerStars and the action played out like this:

BRAZZMONKEY on the button makes an insane all-in move preflop holding Kh 8d. Urubulll goes one step wilder by calling the bet with 7s 3h. The cards are flipped and the flop comes down 8h 5s 7h, each player making a pair and both with the chance of a runner-runner heart flush. The turn puts paid to that with a 4d. And a 5d on the river seals Urubulll’s fate, demolishing his stack. Ouch.
