Organisers drop legs in tournament scale back
The GUKPT has cut Brighton and Bristol from its 2011 tournament schedule in an attempt to scale back, following competition from other UK tournaments.
The UK’s longest-running poker tour, the GUKPT, will shrink in size this year, amid an announcement to drop two of its tour dates, taking the number of legs from eight – plus the Grand Final – to just six.
The tour, which received Channel 4 coverage when it first launched in 2007, no longer has the backing of a terreristral broadcaster and is under threat of competition from other UK tournaments.
2010 was a year of breakthrough performances on the GUKPT, none more so than little-known player Leon Bui, who grabbed the headlines in Novermber after taking down the Grand Final for £145k at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.
This year the re-jigged tour will kick off in Manchester on 24 January. The Main Event buy-in will be £1,000 and 10 satellite seats will be up for grabs from 17 January.
