Player of the week: Isaac Haxton
The nosebleed tables were still suffering from a festive wind down this week, but that didn’t stop some of the game’s biggest stars from posting six-figure profits.
And while Patrik Antonius went about demolishing Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates on Full Tilt’s PLO tables, this week’s biggest story was the losing start to ‘phenom’ Isildur1’s career as a PokerStars Team Pro.
The Swede came into his first Superstar Showdown match-up with Isaac Haxton off the back of a vigorous PR drive, but his return to the high-stakes scene wasn’t to be a triumphant one, with Haxton taking the unknown star for over $40,000.
And in the wake of the Superstar defeat, Isildur1 grumbled about Haxton’s ‘weak’ style, claiming ‘I want to play this guy again, because I didn’t feel he was so good. I dont think he deserved to win.’
But away from all the handbags and drama, Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies finally found his form after months of toiling away against cold deck after cold deck. The Finnish star has had a shocking 2010 but recorded his first winning session in months on the $300/$600 PLO tables earlier this week, banking an impressive $119,000 after just 237 hands.

And to celebrate Ziigmund’s return, we’re proud to award him our hand of the week after an amazing three way pot with Di ‘Urindanger’ Dang and ‘rumprammer’.
On the $300/$600 tables, Dang and rumprammer limped into the pot before Ziigmund raised to $3,600 from the big blind. The A-Q-8 flop handed all three players a set, with Ziigmund’s A-A-9-2 way ahead of rumprammer’s set of Queens and Dang’s eights. All three gladly got their money in the middle before the turn, and blanks on the next two streets pushed a tasty $136,674 pot into the desperate Finn’s hands.
