Pretty much anyone who’s anyone in the UK poker world has converged in Nottingham for the Sky UK Poker Championships. The £1,100 £500k guaranteed main event started yesterday with 187 runners and after a frantic day’s action it was PokerPlayer favourite Barny Boatman who topped the pile with a massive haul of 321,300 – almost 100k more than the second placed player.
There’s a long way to go though before one lucky player gets to call himself the champion of the UK. PokerPlayer editor Ross Jarvis is playing Day 1B and he’s been in touch to say that things are very busy at Dusk Till Dawn. Up to 400 players are expected to take their seats today, smashing the £500k guarantee with a very chunky first prize.
It’s not just the main event though. The High Roller tournament has already finished, with Jeremy Nock scooping the £61k first prize. There’s also a £550 PLO event starting today at 6pm with a £25k guarantee and a £550 Six Max starting tomorrow with two day ones and a £100k guarantee.
There is no live stream of the action unfortunately, but Sky is packaging up highlights to be broadcast later in the year. What they will record for posterity is proof that the UK game is in fine fettle.
