Live tournament virgin? Make 2015 the year you make your big splash!
1. WSOP Main Event
There are 1,000 very good reasons to make this the year that you try to qualify for the Main Event. The WSOP has listened to critics and abolished the $10m guaranteed first prize. Instead, as long as 5,000 players enter, 1,000 will get paid at least $15k. On last year’s numbers the winner will walk away with $8m. It runs July 5-14.
2. Global Poker Masters
Eight countries, made up of the five best players as ranked by the GPI, are set to do battle over a two-day event at the EPT Malta festival, March 21-22. You can’t actually play in this unique invitational but you can still get involved. It’s set to be live streamed at Twitch.TV with no delay and you can bet on the outcome at bet365 and other bookies now.
3. Colossus
The WSOP loves big numbers and it’s hoping to break records on the opening weekend of this year’s series. The $5m guaranteed colossus is a two-day event that runs May 29-30 and boasts the lowest buy-in for a bracelet event ever – just $565. If you’re in Vegas at the time you simply can’t miss it.

4. EPT Grand Final
Outside of the WSOP this is the most prestigious tournament of the year. The €10,600 buy-in plays out April 29-May 8 in Monte Carlo, where you’ll need to min-cash just to afford a house salad and a cold beer.
5. High Roller for One Drop
The $1m buy-in is on its annual rest but you can bet that all of poker’s marquee names will be turning up for the ‘low-stakes’ version this year. The modest $111,111 buy-in will still get bums on seats and create the strongest final table at this year’s WSOP.
