News surfaced this week that a poker player hailing from the U.K. had done what many poker professionals could only ever dream of doing.
Daniel Carter, a poker aficionado hailing from Cheltenham, won a massive five poker tournaments over what was likely a blistering seven day stint. Riding high on his poker glories, the true pro now has afforded himself the chance of winning the PocketFives Triple Crown.
It all started on July 15th, when Carter blazed his way past the competition to win three titles, all undertaken via online gaming sites. The first was The Big $75, a title that bestowed Carter with $5757, then came the $109 NL Hold’em Turbo Progressive Super-Knockout ($9160), which was then roundly followed up by the $16.50 NL Hold’em Turbo event ($3699). Carter then narrowly missed out on a fourth win, coming sixth in the $11 NL Hold’em 1R1A competition – I guess we can’t have it all!
On July 16th the player switched providers and won the $30,000 Sunday Crocodile, winning another $9491, and two days later swapped sites again, winning the $22 NL Hold’em 1R1A, cashing in a fat $3781 cheque in the process.
Carter’s wins – now totaling some $1,364,324 – will likely assist in the promotion of the online version of the sport in the U.K. Over recent months operators throughout Britain have been bolstering their sites, services and promotions in an effort to cash in on the growing population of poker players in the country, of which Carter is now one of the best.
One of the most proactive in doing this has been betting operator Coral, Coral have embraced the poker space and also supported the players by introducing Coral connect, Coral connect is a card that allows users to deposit and withdraw cash in shops and play online with those funds, something pokers players are finding really useful, Players enjoying poker tournaments via the operator are now able to pay for entry to tournaments using cash in the shops then playing online, many find this way safer to play as there are no need for bank details. Funds are then deposited into a customer’s connect card instantly; customers can take out up to £500 of cash per day in-shop or can instead utilise bank transfer.
With offers and services such as these being rolled out, it’s no stretch of the imagination to think that there will likely be many more Daniel “lucky_scrote” Carters cropping up in the poker news during the near future. Whether or not they’ll be able to surpass Carter’s enviable successes is another story however.
